PHÂN BIỆT I WILL VÀ I'M GOING TO

A. Nói về hành động ở thì tương lai.

Hãy nghiên cứu sự khác nhau giữa will và going to:
Sue đang nói chuyện với Helen:View attachment 10744- Sue: Let’s have a party.
- Helen: That’s a great idea. We’ll invite lots of people.
Will (’ll): Chúng ta dùng will khi chúng ta quyết định làm việc gì đó ngay tại thời điểm nói. Người nói trước đó chưa quyết định làm điều đó. Buổi tiệc là một ý kiến mới.View attachment 10745Sau hôm đó Helen gặp Dave:View attachment 10746Helen: Sue and I have decided to have a party. We’re going to invite lots of people.

Going to: Chúng ta dùng (be) going to khi chúng ta đã quyết định làm điều gì đó rồi. Helen đã quyết định mời nhiều người trước khi nói với Dave.

Hãy so sánh:

- "George phoned while you were out.”
- "OK. I’ll phone him back.”

Nhưng
- "George phoned while you were out.”
- "Yes, I know. I’m going to phone him back.”

- "Ann is in hospital.”
- "Oh, really? I didn’t know. I’ll go and visit her.”

- "Ann is in hospital.”
- "Yes, I know. I’m going to visit her tomorrow.”

B. Tình huống và sự việc xảy ra ở tương lai (dự đoán tương lai)

Đôi khi không có sự khác biệt nhiều giữa will và going to. Chẳng hạn bạn có thể nói:

- I think the weather will be nice later.

hay
- I think the weather is going to be nice later.

Khi chúng ta nói một việc nào đó sắp xảy ra (something is going to happen), chúng ta biết hay nghĩ tới điều đó dựa vào một tình huống trong hiện tại. Ví dụ:

- Look at those black clouds. It’s going to rain. (không nói ’It will rain’ — we can see the clouds now)
- I feel terrible. I think I’m going to be sick. (không nói ’I think I’ll be sick’ — I feel terrible now)

Trong những trường hợp khác chúng ta cũng có thể dùng will:

- Tom will probably arrive at about 8 o’clock.
- I think Ann will like the present we bought for her.
