big - considerable, huge, large, enormous
Khi dùng "một số lượng lớn" với từ amount thì bạn không được dùng big theo collocations mà phải dùng những từ trên.
Thành phố này đã dùng một khoản tiền lớn cho việc ngăn chặn tội phạm.
2. A number of cities has more than ten million inhabitants.
has - have
a number of + N(số nhiều) + V(số nhiều)
Nhiều thành phố có hơn 10 triệu dân.
3. A large proportion of people commute to work by car.

4. The major cities have a large level of unemployment.
large - high
Level không đi được với large mà phải thay bằng high hay significant theo collocations.
Phần lớn các thành phố đều có những người thất nghiệp ở mức cao.
5. A number of surveys has been carried out.
has - have
Nhiều cuộc khảo sát đang được thực hiện.
6. Only a small percentage of the houses has electricity.
has -> have
a percentage of + N(số nhiều) + V(số nhiều)
Chỉ một số ít hộ gia đình là có điện.
7. The number of private cars is increasing rapidly.

8. People are now enjoying a higher level of living.
level -> standard
Khi nói về chất lượng của cái đó thì thường dùng standard.
standard of living. mức sống
Con người đang hưởng một mức sống cao hơn.
9. The food supply is not proportion about the size of the country.
proportion about -> in proportion to st. tương xứng với cái gì
Sự cung cấp thức ăn không tương xứng với kích thước của đất nước.
10. Comparing with other countries, Libya spends a high percentage of income on education.
comparing -> compared
Câu này mình nghĩ dùng mệnh đề quan hệ rút gọn, cả câu sẽ là:
Libya was compared with other countries which spends a high percentage of income on education.
So với các nước khác, Libya đã dành tỉ lệ phần trăm thu nhập cao cho giáo dục.
