PANO – Vietnam’s estimated population in 2011 reached 87.84 million, up by 1.04 per cent against the year before, of which the male population was 43.47 million, making up 49.5 per cent of the total and the female one represented 50.5 per cent or 44.37 million.However, experts pointed out that the birth growth rate of male babies outpaces that of female ones year on year.
According to reports recently released by the General Office of Statistics, the urban population reached 26.88 million, up by 2.5 per cent from 2010, while the rural one stood at 60.96 million. Up by 0.41 per cent.
The agency also unveiled that the numbers of people from the age of 15 in 2011 were 51.39 million, up by 1.97 per cent year on year, while people at the working ages were 46.48 million, up by 0.12 per cent.
The reports also show that the manpower distribution saw a change in 2010 with a decline in rural and agricultural workforce and a rise in the industrial sector and services.
Experts forecast that Vietnam’s population will exceed 88 million in 2012.
