Keeping in mind the mother’s word, Do Thanh Nam- chairman and managing director of Win-Win Strategy Consulting Company has made great determination of studying for getting out of the poverty. His company has now consulted strategy for more than 1000 Vietnam enterprises and the most preferable consulting partner of about half of the 100 largest companies in Vietnam.
Do Thanh Nam was born in a poor village in Que Son district, Quang Nam Province, one of the harshest places in Viet Nam. With his determination of getting out of the poverty, he passed the entrance exam to the University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City when he was 17. On a day he came to Ho Chi Minh City, his mother gave him a pair of earings – her marriage memento – and said: “All of our family’s fortunes are on your shoulders. If you don’t care about your future, then you are not living, but dragging your life”. Those words gave him power and encouraged him to move further in his career. Besides studying, he devoted his free time to do part-time jobs just for studying and living. That will encouraged him so much that finally, he graduated from the University of Economics and then Master of Business Administrationdegree from the French-Vietnamese Center for Management Education (CFVG) in 1998.
Do Thanh Nam met Mr. Gérard Letellier - the General Manager of Morning Star Cement Joint Venture Company (Holcim Ltd.) in cooperation between Mr. Nam and Mr. Gérard in strategic planning in 1998. Gerard’s high appreciation on his consulting capacity is considered a turning point of Nam’s decision as a strategic consultant for further more develop his own life ambition.
In 1999, apart from working as an independent consultant and a university lecturer, Do Thanh Nam drew a plan to establish a professional business consulting firm in Vietnam. First, he identified capable students who are deeply passionate in doing business. Then he raised funds from different sources as well as from his own to send some of those students to study in developed countries with better educational conditions. Additionally, he recommended the others to prestigious companies, particularly consulting firms, for more practical experiences.
Those fundamental steps provide well - trained and dedicated partners for establishing his consulting firm in the future. Win-Win Strategy Consulting was officially established in 2006. Since the very beginning, the company has given top priority to human values and humane identity. So far, company’s success has been commensurate not only with quality in each consulting project but also with humane qualities. Until now, the founder, chairman and managing director of Win-Win Strategy Consulting Company and his staff have consulted strategy for more than 1000 Vietnam enterprises. Especially, his company consulted free of charge for over 800 enterprises in Ho Chi Minh city, helped them in managing business and overcoming difficulties and winning their positions back during the World Financial Crisis times. Mr. Nam’s contributions resulted in the most preferable consulting partner of about half of the 100 largest companies in Vietnam, which are ranked by VNR500 – top 500 Vietnamese Largest enterprises - 2009, published by the Vietnam’s leading Online Newspaper Vietnamnet.
Doing consulting for many companies, Mr. Do Thanh Nam has himself gained invaluable experiences about living and doing business. He successfully introduced and implemented 4 new management models such as: Sustainable Differentiation; Each “hero” in each position; the “Crab” type management; and Making employee be fixed asset of company. Furthermore, Mr. Nam is also the author of 5 best-seller books including “Attracting and Retaining Talents”, “Ways to foster innovations”, “The art of establishing a business”, “Finding the right job - Waking up the self-potential”, “The art of moving in the labour market”, which were published by the Youth Publishing House, and of 7 published scientific works. He is author of over 200 articles on business and strategy published on prestigious magazines and newspapers such as Saigon Times, VnEconomy, Business Review, Vietnam Business Forum, Vietnam Investment Review, etc. These articles are all at high practical values.
Besides his professional business consulting career, he spends much time lecturing at university and enterprise’s clubs and associations. He shares enterprises with business experience for enhancing enterprises’ competitive capacity as well as gives students practical business information for improving knowledge in students. He also made many initiatives for “Vietnamese use Vietnam goods” campaign launched bythe Politburo of the Party Central Committee reaped successful result last year.
