Type 2 = verb + adverb + object </p><p>or: verb + object + adverb</p><p>EX: Put off = postpone</p><p>We must put off the meeting for another week.</p><p>We must put the meeting off for another week</p><p>If the object is a pronoun the adverb must come after the object </p><p>We must put it off for another week</p><p>But not:</p><p>We must put off it for another week. Type 3 = verb + preposition + object </p><p>The preposition cannot be separated from the verb.</p><p>EX: take after = be similar to older relative (resemble)</p><p>He takes after his mother.</p><p>He takes after her.</p><p>But not:</p><p>He takes his mother after.</p><p>He takes her after.</p><p>4.
